Microsoft has an RSS Team. It seems like they found RSS a good name.
It’s easy to remember. Maybe we need to rename the Internet. It can be the Opennet.
I’m an RSS fan and have blogged with passion and verbosity on the topic. However, I think that RSS “powers” or “enables” web feeds, blog posts, podcasts, news feeds, weather updates, or whatever any marketer, media company, blogger or creative person wants to call that product, service or art-form (I’d use the word “content,” but some folks have problems with that word). I believe Microsoft announced it was “supporting” RSS, not agreeing to give the name “RSS” to everything that is available via RSS.
Maybe the new name will be MSS. I hope it makes blogging as you go belly up easier. Say you have a couple of thousand unhappy customers and your business is in various forms of meltdown. With MSS you can instantly tell all your customers they are screwed because you are screwed and get instant feedback from others across your industry with the new MSS data warehouse technology.

Someone’s going to have to come up with a better name than RSS. The majority just can’t grasp what it is. The vast majority that is.
