I’ve been meaning to compliment you on your handling of all this. It takes guts to lay out offers like this and from my eyes, means you walk your talk. Maybe you were a bit rough on them – but the point about transparency and blogging is a big one – and you made it.

Maybe there should be a standard way for folks to find such disclaimers.

If you want hits, you have to pay. Either by buying traffic or content. Your not going to make a killing for nothing. Blogs can get a whole lot of hits with little content or a few short posts a day. What’s the traffic worth? A free trip sounds like a good deal. Maybe we’ll see more travel blogs popping up. I’ll blog for a trip to Hawaii. I’ll blog on the beach, at the airport, the hotel even the shower or the pool. Gambling blogs from Vegas are around the corner.
Blogging will expand into entertainment. It’s a sure thing! How much news blogging can you do, before you get bored to death? The AP feeds have thenews covered, along with all the other news feeds. News isn’t broke.

Moreover, MSM’s money obsession often ignores “good” money. For example, they rarely point out that MDs and teachers have economic interests.

Hey, I’ll gladly take the FRC’s money to cover their event. It’s less cash for them to spend on causes I abhor, and I have a surprising amount of faith in my ability to take them for every dollar I can expense or stipend, and still mock them mercilessly.

I’m absolutely serious; I wish they’d send the money or a query ASAP.

I say, go down there, enjoy the nightlife, the grand ole opry, the bbq, the great smokey mountains, dollywood etc., and then write what you have to write.

Jim, WTF? Are you chemically enhanced while you’re posting these things?

Anyway, Jeff, it’s your choice and all, but if you and others won’t take the FRC’s money to go to their conferences an the opposing opinion, won’t that mean there won’t be opposing opinions at these thigns? Aren’t we likely to see this later reflected in complaints about “right wing echo chambers”?

Besides, every dollar they spend on you is a dollar they can’t spend on pushing their agenda.

The next big thing: Sue the bloggers. This will keep the corporate lawyers busy and well fed. It should also help companies crush their critics. It’s like a giant digital filter. If you have a billion dollar company coming after you, what can you do? Keep on hacking folks. When everybody is wrong, everybody is right or something. Thank God you don’t need a search engine to find your friends. Who needs enemies with technology like ours?

You can’t manage the news without writing at least a little. You could write the news in code and try to program the world. People have other ideas. It’s like kicking around on piece of ground in your hometown and one day you find ten years have gone behind you. You’re older and every year is getting shorter. The digital age is funny. Forgetting to remember is sin and hard core lies are currency. Your paper isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on and your stock isn’t worth the paper it’s not printed on. The new thing is replacing writers with computer programs to manage the news. I just don’t think it will work. They can try. It’s a free country.

One of the most destructive things that MSM does is the constant bleating that money is the major motivator for bad things. It’s not, at least outside the MSM. And, the complementary lesson, that folks who aren’t getting money are somehow more virtuous, is wrong as well.
