I am so sick of hearing about the folks that died in 9/11 and thier millionaire families!

Move on people!

What about all the people who have died in the wars, their families get a few thousand dollars for their sons and daughters who actually died in defense of peace, not in a "wrong place at the wrong time" tragedy.

People die in this world every day, hit by cars, plains crash, inocent bystanders shot by a 12 year old. It's part of life. That's all!

Everyone is concerned about this "sacred ground". What a pharce! What about the battle fields of the Civil War, aren't they sacred in the same sense? What about the spot on the west side highway where a little girl was killed when a drunk driver ran her down, shouldn't the highway be closed and a memorial built?

Keep perspective people!!!!

And it's doubtful a movie theater would pass the smell test. Would they allow a Michael Moore movie to be shown there? And a mall? Could they sell Arab goods there? What about a Michael Moore DVD.

Face it - as long as there is any life there whatsoever, Debra Burlingame and some of the 9/11 survivor families are going to be offended.

But that's what life is about. Sometimes you get offended. Deal with it.

I live in Tribeca. I don't want a graveyard in my backyard. That would be the most offensive outcome of all.

I would like some culture there. The Drawing Center would be nice. How about some condos? More skyscrapers please. But the memorial already covers the footprints. That's big enough in my book. The survivor families are simply getting greedy.

I don't care about the IFC. It's hokey. But I DO care about the Drawing Center. As if people who died in 9/11 would be offended by art????? Give me a break.

The memorial they are proposing is already enormous. And quite ugly. The Snoetta design for this building is quite beautiful. But now it won't be built.

So when we continue to look at an undeveloped plot for the next 10 years - at least we'll know who to blame.

It's utterly absurd that we think the replacement of a Drawing Center with a KFC and McDonalds is going to somehow honor the dead.

uh Jeff......much more of really looking at the NYT's "tilting" of a story and I am afraid you can't stop. If you watch this sort of "tilting, the campaigns and the silences" long enough, it is addictive and fries the brain. Your eyes connect to your brain and it says it ain't so.

I am so glad people are fighting to take back this memorial. International Freedom Center. Who the heck needs a "International" Freedom Center to educate the world how evil we all are? We already have their opinions in almost every International Organization I have seen in action. They tell us daily how rotten we are. They have not convinced me the people who died would have appreciated this IFC. Do the 9/11 victims need to have them standing over them, telling them again? I think not.

Yes, I live and work here. I'm at the World Trade Center every day.
And, yes, I want life there; I have blogged that I'd sooner have a mall and a movie theater -- life -- than the IFC.
I'm happy to see the IFC built... just not there.

So what you're proposing is that we just turn all of downtown Manhattan into one big graveyard?

Um - Do you live here? I do. And I'd prefer that we actually bring some life back to ground zero. Because to do otherwise, you know, would be to let the terrorists win.
