HAL

We installed Spam Karma to get rid of the captcha number on comments and it’s acting like HAL, going powermad. I’m trying to dial it back but if your comment gets held up, that’s why.

Yup, I had some comments lost because of this, but now I know how to circumvent that. Good luck with finetuning the filter.

    Cialis!

Darn! I thought I was getting special treatment in getting all my posts banned.

You sure it’s a bug, not a feature? I mean, this is pretty convenient in surpressing commentaries from people that critizise you (like yours truly)…
    ;)

It is shutting out commenters after each post. One must close the screen and type in the buzzmachine.com url after each comment, instead of taking us back to the main page.

    Hardly friendly!

Ah, that explains how a well-reasoned piece of literary legerdemain gets flagged as spam. Thanks for letting us know, Jeff.

It’s a strange spam filter, for sure. The behavior of this software is totally erratical. Sometimes you can post for an hour, next time error messages come after every single comment. That’s a Dell product? :)

But if it thinks you’re a spammer it tries to keep you out very forcefully. IP, cookies, Username, maybe mailadress 2 are checked. It’s possible to work around this, but it’s annoying.

Mr. Jarvis, if you don’t want active participation of commenters here, why don’t you tell us in the first place?

  9. Gray says:

And, as you can see above, since the admin can approve filtered comments manually, sometimes this leads to double postings. The first ‘double’ comment above was prevented by the system, JJ must have manually posted it. Not knowing this (no mindreading device here), I posted it a second time with other IP and username. So instead of preventing spamming, this filter leads to a high chance of double comments. Ridiculous!

Jeff, Spam Karma (you should be running version 2) is less aggressive than version 1, but it’s still quite … well, you’ve discovered.

Dealing with spam shouldn’t be such a chore. (Actually, we shouldn’t HAVE spam in the first place, but that’s another discussion…)

I strongly suggest you try Bad Behavior to plug up the broken levee through which your spam is flowing.

This is really hampering my efforts to counter the spin of the repub apologists. JJ, this filter obviously isn’t working as it should, can’t you pls stop this experiment and switch to another software?
