Help?

I just got a call from my parents, whose neighbor heard from her brother, who has been on top of a roof in a parish neighboring New Orleans for four days with no sign of help. They wanted to know where to turn. I had no idea other than to try to get the local Coast Guard, who could contact the Coast Guard units who are running the helicopter rescues.

Does anyone have another suggestion?

GOOD NEWS: I heard from my father that the man was rescued. When his sister called the Coast Guard, they patched her right through. Have no idea whether that had anything to do with the rescue but it’s good to know that something works.

Federal Emergency Management Agency, FEMA, has been handling disaster relief, and I’m sure NJ has a local office.

My latest understanding of the situation is that the Coast Guard is the correct agency to call. This is as of yesterday, so who knows by now.

Heck, call both the coast guard and FEMA so there is less of a chance that this can be lost in the clutter.

Problem is, you know how many other people have been up on their roofs for 4 days?

Like the other commentor said, call FEMA. The director just said they are responding to people who call in for help.

There is also a lot of US Coast Guard contact information at this website:

    Good luck.

  6. Survivor directory. Call to the Wiki literate.

Jeff, please help me get out the message of two services.

The first is a survivor directory. It was the first one up and running, the programmer who wrote it (overnight) is whipping up new features every hour. It is an excellent application, but we need to people to register their names.

The second is that I’ve created a wiki and it’s been very helpful to people who need to be evacuated, but I can’t keep up with both projects.

Can anyone out there Wiki? I can find New Orleanians, who can dump data, but don’t have time to teach people how to Wiki.

    Please help.

  7. Also, I don’t have the time to get the word out, outside of New Orleans. Please help spread the word about Family Messages.

    And my NOLA WIki is:

I’m desperately trying to gather current contact information for victims assistance . Databases , emergency numbers and other information.

You might check any further needs there , or if you find anything that needs posted I’ll be more than happy to post it. Anyone wanting to copy the information and post it also is free to do so.

There is a KatrinaWiki and tons of other places to check.
