Has anyone read anything about sending clothes and toys directly to the astrodome? I know all the agencies just want cash, but it would be nice to get those folks (especially the kids) some clothes, books, etc. and most of us have plenty to spare. With this new address/zip code it would be easy, but I don’t want to send it if they can’t deal with it yet. Anyone heard?
I volunteered at the Astrodome this weekend. You can read about it on my blog. (click on my name) They are not accepting donations AT the Astrodome now because it was becoming overwhelming with the cars driving in. Houstonians are coming through in A BIG WAY. 2500 volunteers there today! Anyway, they are asking you to send donations to the organizations that are collecting them.
The only need I saw yesterday were toys and books. So I went and bought a bunch today and delivered them with a furniture store donation center.
Craig yes…there is a way. Go Here…www.svdphouston.org. The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Houston is specifically collecting goods for children, especially sleeping bags and clothing.
Nice job volunteering Rightwingsparkle but it seemed to me that you spent a lot of time in the dome canvassing the people there making sure that this disgraceful tradgedy wasn’t the governments fault, especially W. Did you actually ask people if they were “Mad at the government?” Did you find it the least bit ironic that armed thugs were roamimg the halls under the watchful eyes of soldiers who apparently did nothing? But this wasn’t the governments fault. Thanks for the true wingnut perspective.
I think I made it clear that I ask a FEW. I was too busy doing other things to talk much.
One thing I did learn was that a national guardsman was shot dead in front of the woman I was talking to. He was struggling to get a gun from a thug, so I hardly call that ….nothing.
This story was confirmed btw, on Fox News by a reporter whose cousin also saw the incident in the Superdome.
Must you on the left ALWAYS resort to name calling? I always feel like I am in 2nd grade again when I argue with y’all.
Excuse me pls, but isn’t it right that you started the namecalling on your blog and invited us to read your account of the situation at the superdome?
You’re wondering that people kick back after you wrote ‘the leadership in the Democratic party and the fringe left (Kos, MoveOn.org, Michael Moore, NARAL ect..) have hijacked the voice of this party and turned it into a petty bitter ranting voice the likes of which I have never seen in politics.’?
Considering all the Louisana flood refugees who are now being moved to the San Antonio area, I think the NFL should have scheduled the Sept. 18 game for the Saints against the Giants at the Alamodome instead of Giants Stadium. They then could have given many of the flood victims tickets to the game, and to people who never would have had a chance to see the Saitns live otherwise. Since both teams have said they would donate part of the gate to the relief efforts, this would have been both a bonus to those left homeless by the flood, a PR plus for the league and a boost for the Saints, who would have something resembling their home crowd backing them, instead of a stadium full of Giants fans (who albeit will be more subdued than normal, given the empathy many of them can feel after living through Sept. 11).
Maybe I’m lost in translation, but the ‘petty bitter ranting voice’ of the Dem party doesn’t sound exactly flattering. ‘wingnut’ is so common at partisan blogs that I don’t think that’s worse. Now if he had called you ‘freakin insane’, yup, I’d say you have every reason to complain.
OK, let’s get back to civil heated argument now
Yes, but I was referring to those organizations listed, not the ENTIRE LEFT. If you did read my post, I made it clear that I don’t believe most democrats are like that and they need to take back their party.
Calling us all “wingnuts” or even calling me that personally is what I was talking about.
If you can’t see the difference, then I can’t help you.
Oh when the saints go marching out?
Sounds like a good method for suicide for a NFL team. I can’t believe that the citizen of San Antonio will welcome those refugees…

Craig,
Ummm…I just took a peek at your blog. It might not be a good idea for you to go to mine. Just trust me on this.

Grray,
And where exactly is the namecalling in that?
There is a difference in criticism and calling someone a “wingnut.” Don’t ya think?
I can take all the kick backs you want to aim at me, lets just be civil about it.

And one more thing. “The freakin insane” comment was made to the fringe of both sides. You can admit that, right?
If the content of my post bothers you so much because you are on the left, then just say that.
Just be honest.
