Jeff,

If you hold a Recovery 2.0 meeting, I will try to be there (anyone I can carpool with from the East Bay), though I suspect a lot of the discussion will be over my less-than-cutting-edge head...

Will continue on my goal to understand wiki-ness.. and probably start thinking how to spread this word to the masses...

One thing that would be helpful for the future is to have an easily reproducable (sp) list of all the items that the public could gather for distribution to those in shelters. Will Reed's comment that they need reading glasses is one of those items that I've never on a list...

Jeff, direct your efforts toward setting up a framework that operates as Mozilla does. Set up a meeting with Blake Ross, Asa Dotzler and Ben Goodger over at Mozilla and have them direct the effort based on the model they used for Firefox. Batelle's Web 2.0 Conference is all about nosing around for the next equity play. That's all good but your audience is not there. If you need funding and have the Mozilla Team behind you with their track record, it won't be a problem. We need to start with a framework. Can you detail Mozilla's framework.

>Recovery is important, but what about preparation.

The only thing this administration is interested in "preparing" for are....photo-ops.

Joshua Marshall had a post about the following Salt Lake Tribune article:

http://www.sltrib.com/utah/ci_3004197

"On the Al Franken show this afternoon I mentioned this article from today's Salt Lake Tribune which tells the story of about a thousand firefighters from around the country who volunteered to serve in the Katrina devastation areas.

...

It's an article you've really got a to read to appreciate the full measure of folly and surreality.

But the graf at the end of the piece really puts everything in perspective, and gives some sense what the Bush administration really has in mind when it talks about a crisis. The paper reports that one team finally was sent to the region ...

As specific orders began arriving to the firefighters in Atlanta, a team of 50 Monday morning quickly was ushered onto a flight headed for Louisiana. The crew's first assignment: to stand beside President Bush as he tours devastated areas."

Recovery is important, but what about preparation. Perhaps we should be organizing civilian defense in communities again, especially those prone to flooding and hurricanes and what not.
