All I can say is I work in TV and even I had no idea I had current on my comcast digital cable. I stumbled across it surfing one day. It must be a premium station as it is blocked. As if I would pay for that, without knowing what it really is. Poor promotion and execution. They should have offered a free trial weekend like the movie channels do. Perhaps I missed that. And if I did it's still poor promotion. Seems to me they totally blew it. And there's nothing revolutionary about that.

> Andy F. I think you could cite Jefferson’s

Jefferson wasn't a Republican, he didn't say it in a speech overseas, and it wasn't part of an "America is going to hell because I wasn't elected" message, so it isn't a counter-example of my claim.

My point is that latter-day Dems have a habit of going overseas and giving "America is going to hell because I wasn't elected/we're not in power" speeches. Not only is that "poor form", it is something that Repubs are far less likely to do.

Do politicians of any stripe from other countries do it?

Andy F. I think you could site Jefferson's "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance" which aside from romanticizing vigilanteism points out that Gore's point was actually correct though he (Gore) was using a weaker version of it for political gain.

> He begins with the party line of whoever’s not in power: “I came here today because I believe that American democracy is in grave danger.”

Really? Cite a repub who made a similar speech overseas.

I confess: I've never read any of Al Gore's speeches, or if
I did skim thru, I can't remember them. Hard to get thru them without your mind shutting down. But Jeff bit the bullet and did just that.

I am appalled by Gore's deliberate attempts at misleading. Most, I am sure, do not have the patience to wade thru Gore's verbal diarrhea to <i>really</i> listen /read and recognize the dishonest double speak. That's how he's gotten by for so long I guess. When speeches are so long and painfully boring, you can say most anything cause it's too torturous to <i>really</i> listen!

This is not the first time I've heard him refer to the Dan Rather incident, like <i>"Conservatives should be ashamed when they try to convince people it’s not fair to take faxed copies of a Microsoft Word document and try to pass it off as thirty years old"

GORE: "Among the other factors damaging our public discourse in the media, the imposition by management of entertainment values on the journalism profession has resulted in scandals, fabricated sources, fictional events and the tabloidization of mainstream news. As recently stated by Dan Rather - who was, of course, forced out of his anchor job after angering the White House - television news has been “dumbed down and tarted up.”

JEFF: "Well, uh, wasn’t Rather forced out because he engaged in fabricated sources, fictional events, and the tabloidization of mainstream news?"</i>

There's a paradox for the left here. The internet is probably the biggest aid to the expansion of progressive thought in history. But the left is also a pusher of regulations and big government, which are in conflict with the nature of the internet and therefore progressive thought.

The top down problem solving approach of the left is in conflict with the emergent problem solving power of the internet and it's democratic nature. If you accept that the decentralized internet works then you have to wonder why that same line of thinking doesn't apply to economics and Hayek's laissez faire approach to society.
