sounds like google is creating a giant p2p network of sorts but with more functionality, searchability, and versatility. actually now that i think about it piracy will likely not be an issue since you have to sign into your account to upload stuff. damn, google makes these products that you think, "why didn't i think of that it seems so logical" and then they execute it to perfection

Google is also all about "long-tail" searches. It's great at connecting people with obscure, low-frequency searches, which happen to make the majority of all search requests.

Google data augments that, since now they can draw upon lots of databases. Bira's right, capturing such structured informaiton is very cool, since they become the one-stop shop for database driven content. As georeferenceing becomes more important, I think the search engine delivery of structured data will be even more important.

I believe it was in "Search" where it was reported that Google does not expect to host all the worlds information. Google expects to be the best at connecting the desired to the desiree. It is too soon to rush to judgement as we don't know what even the beta product will be.

It could be like your suggestion, a simple way of telling folks where to find a classified ad or other information that is hosted somewhere. As a consumer, I yearn for the ability to find and compare products easily and quickly.

Google Print leads one to Amazon or another book seller. To my knowledge, Google has not tried to make deals to sell pdf versions of the books.

In regard to barriers to entry, the prior response was uninformed. Google has built a tremendous infrastruture that allows it to find more items at greater speed. Even Yahoo has lost search share to this powerfully built service. The pace of adding new features is almost unbelievable. MSFT has spent billions trying to capture the eyeballs that Google has accumulated quickly.

People must start to understand that no company owns the internet. The data that exists on the World Wide Web is all public.

In recent years in all industries the "middle" man is being removed. Example for the past 150 years people needed telephone companies to managed communication between individual today instant messaging allows for peer to peer.

Today we need sites like eBay to manage transactions between buyers and sellers tomorrow Google Base will allows people to sell directly to one another.

Google is capitalizing on a trend where "middle" men companies are being eliminated. The internet is all about efficiency. The company which makes doing business more efficient is successful.

Google is nothing more than a great search engine. Unfortunately, the barriers to entry for search engines are low, so Google knows it must hype the shit out of itself to keep the balloon inflated. That's the reason for the weekly earth-shattering press releases from this company. Let's look at Google in 2 years.. can anyone say "bubble?"
