Today did a shoftball interview with a Scientologist official today that turned into a commercial for the cult.
Next up: The 30-minute nosejob.
This is why my wife stopped watching Today months ago.

Their market research must have told them that infomercials were the way to go. How many interviews with actors/actresses can we stand before our shower?

That’s exactly why I stopped watching the Today show months ago as well. Originally, I watched local news and then it got terrible, so I switched to the Today show which got terrible, so now I’m back to the local news which isn’t as terrible as the Today show but still sucks.
I’ve realized lately though, that since I spend my first hour at work getting caught up with the blogs I read and the news, that the only thing I’m even interested in from the morning news is the traffic and weather reports. I need to just start listening to music and checking for those two things on the internet.

I sit through an hour of the Today show just about everyday. Despite a strong support cast of Anne Curry, Al Roker, and Alexis Glick the show misses a continuity that is necessary for credibility purposes. Between Matt Lauer being out of the country half the time and Katie Couric’s time off the team is virtually never together. News shows have a tough time remaining credible when the pieces are constantly being juggled.
The Today Show recently went through a change in leadership in which a lot of the producing pieces were let go in exchange for fresh ideas. So far, it has been less than impressive.
Matt Lauer is the only real reporter on that show who has the talent to ask tough questions while remaining professional. If you doubt that take a look at the Tom Cruise vs. Brooke Shields psychiatric debate the two had that was largely publicized. Matt asked tough questions, took personal jabs, got no real solid answers from Tom, and yet still managed not to knock the idiot off of his chair. I do not know how he did it, myself, I applaude his restraint.
They are the most watched morning show in America, that is a fact. However, if they do keep running infomercials about cults, 15 minute nose job pieces, and other out of touch stories the audience is going to change the channel.

I keep watching the Today show because I love to at least see Ann Curry and also because I used to see Alexis Glick on CNBC’s Squawk Box (and I wonder how many Today viewers have any idea that Alexis was a senior business reporter).
I don’t watch it exclusively, mind you. I constantly change channels between those shows as well as CNN, Imus on MSNBC and Washington Journal. I don’t usually watch Katie’s segments at all.

if Katie gets CBS news anchor it will be the demise of Les Moonves, I predict. Her interviews are themost annoyingand have gotten worse since she’s been touted as a possible rather successor. In trying to come off as tough and savvy, she comes across as hostile and rude. She is such a goddamn phoney too when she tries to ooze sympathy with a guest who’s child was just mudered. Its so blatantlt shallow and exploitive. It’s all about her all the time. What a name dropper too. I can’t wait till she leaves in May. Anne Curry can read the news, but in an interview she’s over her head and shows her insecurity. Campbell brown is the best, but I do love looking at Alexis Glick, who’s no slouch in the reportingdepartment either. Keep Matt and Al. Bring in Alexis or Campbell and have Lester read the news.

These morning shows are not serious news programs. Katie Couric is not a real journalist. Neither is Matt “You’re so glib” Lauer; they are talk show hosts. These shows are pathetic and shameless. On ABC, you have a ridiculous attempt to make the newsreaders part of the story. Case in point, Katrina: instead of giving us the news, we were treated to days of “reporting” on the effects of the hurricane on Robin Roberts rather then the actual news itself. As for CBS…do they have a morning show?

Very strange these derogatory comments about the #1 morning show. It’s not 60 Minutes, the evening News, 20/20, Dateline, etc., and it’s not supposed to be. It’s a three hour morning show with programming segments geared towards their audience. I think they hit the mark pretty well. The comments about Katie Couric’s falseness, are obviously from someon who doesn’t like her. Real credible criticism there people.
Katie, Matt, Al and Ann have a great rapport. The comments about lack of continuity because of Matt being out of the country, etc., are really just … again… from someone who doesn’t like the show. That format obviously works, because they continue to pounce on their counterpart shows.
My opinion on Katie’s replacement, if she is leaving…. be careful! The loyalty to Ann, and even Natalie Morales, will be huge in terms of any new gal coming into the fold. People love Ann…. and my personal opionion is that Natalie Morales has the best interview skills, and on-air rapport with the others, than any of the other ladies they’ve been testing. Alexis Glick really couldn’t hold her own now could she? Which is why she’s gone.

I think Ann is the most qualified to replace Katie. If not Ann, then Campbell Brown. Natalie Morales does a great job reading the news but does interview that well. THANK GOODNESS ALEXIS IS GONE!

I vote for Natalie Morales to replace Katie if she ever goes away. Natalie is the happy mean between all the vices. She’s professional and credible when she reads the news, ans she has great interviewing skills. Also she has the cutest smile, although I prefer her when she’s in her more serious mood. And I don’t mean to be rude, but I’m glad Alexis Glick is gone. I could tell she was trying too hard (I could see her positioning herself to inherit Katie’s throne in a sort of obvious way).

Katie is disgusting. Her plastic work is probably a primary focus (face and trying to be sexy).
She is overpaid, overrated and i don’t find anyone that likes her. that, in itself, is the confusing part.

What happened to Alexis Glick? Was she canned? Did she quit? Is she on the air anywhere else? If anyone knows please tell me.

Alexis could have been far superior to any person to take over Katie’s spot. She did appear uncomftortable but over time she would have been natural. I admire her intelligence, appreciate her beauty-she is the best eye candy on the Today Show except for some hot movie stars-feel her warmth and love her charm. I believe that, because she had all these attributes, and Katie had none, Katie was jealous and got her fired.Katie is so devious that she may have even conspired with Matt, Ann, Natalie and ,perhaps Campbell (but I hope not)to get the threat of Alexis removed. Also I am sure that Alexis’s politics are far ifferent than Katie’s politics. Finally, who would U prefer to wake up to and be with in the morning? Katie-definitely not, never under any circumstances; Natalie-no;Ann-I do not think so;Campbell-maybe. In fact, I could wake up with Alexis 7 mornings a week, 24 hours aday.
Please, someone get Alexis back or at least tell me where I can find her.

I’m very happy that Meredith is taking Katie’s place. And I do miss Alexis Glick. I thought she continued to improve and she seemed so sweet. What happened to her?
July 25th, 2006 at 2:08 pm
Will everybody just stop, please, just stop!!! All of us wants to know where Alexis Glick went! She just didn’t stop working; somebody must know where she is (?). Where oh where is Alexis? WE MISS HER!
August 24th, 2006 at 1:28 pm
Is gummy Katie really as GREAT as she thinks she is!!! I have polled many people, and I couldn’t find one single person who liked her, and if they sorta’ liked her, they didn’t think she would make it up against Gibson and/or Williams. Too bad Ann Curry didn’t land the spot!

For all wondering why Alexis Glick was removed, I believe it was for a number of reasons. First, I heard that NBC was displeased with her work as a whole. Second, I read somewhere that Alexis spoke an obsenity on the air accidentally, and that this was perhaps the last straw. As to conspiracies, I’m not positive; however, if there is one capable of one, it is definitely Natalie Morales.
