Howard Stern suspended

An eagle-eyed, rabbit-eared reader says that Sirius’ Howard 100 News is reporting that Howard Stern has been suspended tomorrow. I know nothing more yet; if you do, let me know. They’ve been bleeping like mad. It reached new levels of absurdity today as they bleeped the word “black” before hair and came in the studio to tell Fifty Cent that he had to stop saying “bitches.”

Free FM, indeed.

: It’s confirmed on HowardStern.com

Nice to give him what he wants, a day off! If Infinity thinks that things will ease off, they’re crazy. They should just pull the plug and be done with it.

When you write Stern “turns the lives and interactions of his co-workers into a comic soap opera sharper than The Office” do you mean the British version or the American version?

    They’re quite different.

  4. Adam Says:

I haven’t heard him mention SIRIUS at all.
I did, however, run into a problem the other day at Circuit City when I asked for an “eh-EH-eh” receiver.

  5. Anon Says:

Is there anywhere online that streams Howard Stern’s show, or has an archive for the day?

  6. crack.pipe Says:

He was on with 50 cent today and they were talking about what sort of bitches 50 had been with, and what ones he preffered. Tom then told him he needed to tone down the bitches talk. Howard blew a gasket.

  7. Louis Says:

Suspension shmushmension. Infinity’s move is kinda like a wife witholding sex two weeks before a divorce.

  8. Big A Says:

Jeez… this is just a stunt. Who get’s suspended for one day?

This isn’t an Infinity move… It’s a Howard move. This suspension is being reported on HowardStern.com and Howard 100 only.

He had a scheduled day off (Election Day) anyway. It’s just a stunt, folks.

  9. Marthirial Says:

Now to his credit, nice PR to turn a day off into a teaser. Too bad Howard 100 News got involved in this stunt and erode the little credibility it had.

A better stunt would be the free receiver (after rebate if you want) with 1 year subscription to Sirius.

  10. Jeff Jarvis Says:

Big A: It could always turn into a stunt but I doubt that Viacom PR would play along. FMQB says it has confirmed: http://fmqb.com/Article.asp?id=141394

why would you doubt it? although you proved my first stunt conspiracy theory wrong… i’ll take it a step further to try and save some face:

infinity is playing along. why? this suspension stunt can help both howard *and* infinity. how does infinity benefit? stern’s ratings have been dropping of late… and drawing attention to stern will get more people to listen on wednesday. this will let infinity promote this dumb ass “FreeFM” format on all of his stations.

you mkay be hearing many “FreeFM” bumpers on wednesday.

    am i stretching?

  13. Jeff Jarvis Says:

    Like a bad condom, I think. ;-)
Viacom and Stern are downright hostile now, especially after Viacom’s insult ads in Ad Age.

  14. Carson Fire Says:

*Temporarily donning the tin foil hat* Big A may be at least half right. Viacom may not be playing along so much as being manipulated by a far more cunning mind than anything they’ve got in a suit.

  15. Rich Drees Says:

Anon- No station streams Stern’s show (I think it may be part of his contract), but you can usually find it the past week or so’s episodes through BitTorrent.

  16. Louis Says:

Anon- I often see ebay listings for Stern’s show. For five bucks you get a link to a P2P site of folks who meticulously record each show and edit out the commercials in MP3 format (bringing the total play time to just under 20 minutes).
I’ve never bid on any of said auctions, as it doesn’t sound all that legit.

  17. Rick D Says:

According to AP, Infinity has NOT confirmed that Howard was off today due to a suspension.

    http://entertainment.tv.yahoo.com/entnews/ap/20051108/113147874000.html

The only parties calling this a suspension are from Stern’s camp (his PR agent, his Sirius “news” channel) - it absolutely looks like a stunt to me. And what happened to not allowing Infinity to use a “Best of” today? They certainly played Best Of in Boston.

  18. tony Says:

ive never seen an artist who has been on the air for 20 years get such lousy treatment when he decides to turn free agent.

Infinity and Clear Channel obviously dont worry about being classless which is sad because this time should be better spent celebrating his amazing career, and if Infinity wanted to spin it they could say “20 Years of Howard on Free Radio” and highlight all the milestones he reached on terrestrial radio.

    instead theyre acting like babies.

Infinity could have prevented all of this if they had simply challenged any of the fines, instead they bent over to the FCC. so therefore isnt better for all parties if howard goes away to eh eh eh and Infinity doesnt have to worry about their lightening rod? i think so.

if howard is pulling a prank by pretending he was suspended then its a pretty lame prank and out of character.

if he was suspended for talking about his next venture then thats amazingly lame on Infinity.

    i cant wait till tomorrow.

  19. FredNorris Says:

it wasn’t a joke, you dopes.

if it was, then Joel Hollander was in on it.

    hmmph…

    THINK before you JUDGE.

    ba ba booey to y’all

    I love Sirius Radio.

  22. Collin Haire Says:

Howard is there let him be there he’s ahead of the time always was and you know it. He gave us a show worth watching unlike most. The people who stop the obvious of saying choice words should be recorded when they are living there “private” lives and be the hypocritical liers. Say what you want do it so others hear cause if you don’t these hypo fuckers will screw up the anal ass cause bitches tits are to big and eye popping bottoms are not for the weak and there will be no change for the weak and strong will lie for a good image.

This is a great web site. I have some great web pages myself if you are interested to share. But I should not go on about my site too much, that is not fair, right?
