Can you imagine the reaction in the USA if a member of the House or Senate said this? Right wing church groups would have massive fundraisers raising millions in no time to defeat this “god-hating, homo loving, child molesting, LIBERAL”.

If there’s a need or desire for a large mosque, and they can meet all the planning permissions, then good luck to them. London’s a world city, and a lot of its taxpayers are Muslims, so I don’t see why this is a problem, maybe it’s an opportunity. Why is there a knee-jerk reaction that this is obviously a bad thing?

Anyway, we’ve already got a very beautiful mosque in central London in Regents Park just opposite Lord’s cricket ground; and there’s a huge Sikh temple in Neasden, north London. We’ve even got 70,000 Americans living, studying and working in London (according to the 2001 census) and worshiping wherever they choose to worship. London can fit ‘em all in.
