I can imagine someone having a voicemail number that when someone leaves a message it drops the recording on the user's webmail account. There's plenty of storage in the average email account for at least basic voicemail at this point in the game.

There was a time in the late 90's when ZDNet was offering free voicemail numbers with the Manhattan area code. I don't see why it would be any less affordable today.

When I was homeless, having someone who would claim to be my place of residence and provide an answering service for me was crucial in getting solid work.

That service is inspiring. Wow.

They already do in some cases. I have VoIP that includes Voice mail free of charge. by the way technically if you have free e-mail you have free voice mail it is only the way you use it that make the difference.
