Man! This blog could sure use a killer app: a spell checker. A little old-fashioned editing would also be a positive.

One of the sentences above is: They strated on it in Taiwan and how have spread it. Can anyone tell me what that even means?

They got the wrong guys in the room. What's happening -- and what will happen -- has little to do with this all-star cast Q&Aing each other. The Web is for the rest of us.

Refreshing to hear Yahoo state that their "...business is selling advertising..." Golly, what the heck is Google's main business? They can't even seem to establish that any longer. Google is losing focus even as their profits rise - but that may be their downfall.

"If Yahoo is a network, it can succeed only if it enables people to share their trust, taste, and knowledge. They need to learn from Flickr and Del.icio.us and they can, since Yahoo owns them now."

Interesting claim, that owning = learning from. I think that's false.

"If Yahoo is a network, it can succeed only if it enables people to share their trust, taste, and knowledge."

Yeah, but with their actions in China, why should I "share my trust" with them if I can't trust them as a company to behave ethically?

I will do as little business with them as possible, and I absolutely refuse to use their stupid search box just because it is so invasive and weird - the way text I am typing magically jumps into the search box creeps me out.

<em>He says he talked to Google’s founders early on about buying them. Their first offer was $1 billion “and we don’t want to sell.” A few weeks later, he said, the price rose to $3 billion and they didn’t sell</em>

What does he mean by<b> "early on"</b>?

Ironically, in 1997-1998 Google Founders attempted to sell their Technology to Infoseek, Excite and Yahoo for $1.6 Million - and were turned away

I don't know what is more interesting ... The interview or the fact that you kinda let everyone else ask the questions whilst you took great notes and then scooped all the reporters by blogging it ...

[...] Terry Semel of Yahoo Interview Notes by Jeff Jarvis Jeff Jarvis of BuzzMachine took some excellent notes of an interview primarily conducted by Ken Auletta of Yahoo’sTerry Semel. Here’s some of my favorite blurbs: “He says he talked to Google’s founders early on about buying them. Their first offer was $1 billion “and we don’t want to sell.” A few weeks later, he said, the price rose to $3 billion and they didn’t sell.” I would love to hear more about this one. “What is Yahoo’s business, Auletta asks. “Our fundamental business is selling advertising… Our fundamental business is that we license content from around the world… and we sell advertising.” Blank Stare…not sure I would agree with this. ““Machines don’t answer the questions of people. People answer the questions of people.” What IS this - quotes from the Matrix School of Neo-isms? ““We don’t have the ambition to do a lot. We have the ambition to help lead the way and help others to do the work for us,” he says.”This one kind of speaks for itself. Yahoo needs a better evangelist and FAST. [...]

The entire web model and much installed software is now predicated on the advertising model. When does saturation set in and advertising become ineffective?

Does it work and how can anyone tell? Just because someone clicks on a link and then goes on to make a purchase doesn't mean that they wouldn't have made the same purchase without the paid link.

TV and radio have now peaked in advertising utility, how long will it take for the web? Perhaps the advertising emperor really has no clothes...
