We went through a six-month 'process review' with a highly paid outside consultant, who documented in the most molecular detail the processes of the newsroom and then laid over this an imagined new layer of processes related to digital production. This was before we had even built a content management system or hired staff. Of course, it turned out to be a complete waste of time and money and was revealed, in hindsight, to be a baroque attempt by the publisher and editor in chief not to have to make any hard decisions. Plus ca change.. Don’t talk to me about ‘taskforces’. Alas it ran into the ground and was soon renamed Rolling Blunder.
