Don't talk to me about 'taskforces'. We went through a six-month 'process review' with a highly paid outside consultant, who documented in the most molecular detail the processes of the newsroom and then laid over this an imagined new layer of processes related to digital production. This was before we had even built a content management system or hired staff.
Of course, it turned out to be a complete waste of time and money and was revealed, in hindsight, to be a baroque attempt by the publisher and editor in chief not to have to make any hard decisions. Plus ca change..

Get rid of the editorial board.

The complete blindness to reality, and sheer volume of bullshit, really undermines the fantastic reporting elsewhere.

the precedents are not great. way back DJ initiated a programme called Rolling Thunder to revive its ailing Telerate data unit. Alas it ran into the ground and was soon renamed Rolling Blunder. Still Paul Ingrassia is a very smart guy so good luck to him.
