Not simple. The bill in Congress to eliminate net neutrality is being backed and lobbied by EVERY SINGLE ISP IN THE COUNTRY, theres only a dozen or so. If you think your "local" ISP wouldn't do this think again, they're nothing but a reseller for one of these larger corporations.

Definatly an intresting point to show. Especially if you take into consideration that T-Mobile in the UK has blocked all VoIP software including Skype from their 3G subscriptions. Technicly they didn't block it, but if they see you use it they will cancel all of your contracts.
Here I think the question is, if I buy a service from somebody why am I not allowed to use that service as I please? In this case Why am I not allowed to use the Internet as I want when I want?

"We could all log out calls to customer service of certain companies -- what gets fixed and what doesn't and how long it takes."
That seems a bit more clear-headed than hammering them about their lack of a blog.

As to the larger point, obviously, yes. Anybody in the service business-- whether they are consumer businesses, elected officials, government agencies, or blogger-consultants-- should have transparent diagnostic tools about their quality of service.
I'm not sure it's strictly journalism, but it is constructive media-- building a larger story from many data points.

Jeff - maybe the Hawthorne Effect rather than the Uncertainity Principle would serve you better for this one (though it's admittedly not a perfect match either). See e.g. http://qurl.com/lcm3q
