The Times is relaxing its standards for explaining why sources are granted anonymity. Public Editor Byran Calame thinks the switch is a good idea. I think it’s a bad idea. The short-lived rule forced reporters and editors to think twice and explain granting anonymity to the ever-growing population of unnamed sources. One step forward, one step backward.
