Geek help: monitor question
I just got a Samsung 215TW monitor to use with my Mac Powerbook. Problem is, when I scroll or move windows using Word, the screen won’t redraw fully, leaving hunks of disembodied text in the window. If I move that window back to my Mac, it cleans up and I can move it back to the Samsung. I see no settings to change. Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you install the OS X version of Magic Tune, their monitor tuning software?

Let’s try that again: MagicTune , the Samsung video software for OS X.

As a general rule of thumb, it’s a good idea to get the Mac driver for any third party accessory you buy to use with your Mac.

I’ve been using computers (including Macs) for 15 years, and I’ve never installed drivers for a monitor.
An experiment: Make the Samsung the primary display and close the Powerbook (turning off its built in screen). Does the 215 still have the redraw problem?

Have you considered switching to a Dell?

I’ve seen this with Viewsonics and others. Always thought it was a bug with Word on the mac. Does it happen in other apps?

Jeff, It’s a Word flaw. Just re-start Word.
When I switch from PowerBook only to feeding my monitor, Word windows won’t grow vertically beyond the PowerBook’s resolution. After restarting Word, it’s fine.

It looks like it is a flaw in OS X. Here is a solution (that doesn’t really address the underlying issue): http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051219081131927

Sounds to me like it is a video driver issue. Installing the monitor driver might help the video card communicate better with the monitor, and make sure you have an updated driver for the video card in the Mac.
Oh wait, this is a Mac, Mac’s work perfectly out of the box with everything, including cute Japanese girls, I know, I saw it on a commercial. It must be a PBKAC error.

When I try to open MagicTune I get an error saying “Uncaught exception in main method: java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /Applications/MagicTune.app/Contents/Resources/Java/LibMagicJniLib.jnilib: ”
Any ideas?

Jeff,
I’m curious, did you get this resolved or at least find a workaround?

alan,
hasn’t done it lately. maybe that’s because i’m using the samsung as my main monitor. maybe because i haven’t been doing much msword lately.

My dog stepped on my computer keys on my laptop and it turned my screen upside down. Can you tell me what to do to get my screen right side up?
