Geek Treo question
I have my new Treo 700P and I’ve gotten the bluetooth dial-up networking to work with my Mac. But I also want to get it working via the USB to have more reliable and fast connections. I downloaded USB Modem; installed just fine. I need a username and password and can’t figure out what it wants. Any experience?

Every time I download new software on my Mac I’m asked for a user name and password which is the user name on my computer and the password for that. But I’m more of a non geek than you.

i think it needs a password at dialup.

kat is probably correct.
Every update to the Mac OS or to other software, every installation that hooks itself into the system, needs your sysadmin username and password.
Like the CS2 update that came through last week and updated 4 of the apps in the suite. 4 times, it asked me for my password. Because, you know, I wanted the new Illustrator, but not the new Photoshop. Or something.

Jeff, could you post a link to the directions you used? Just got my 700p and want to join in on the fun…

Hi Jeff,
I know networks function in a different way here but I also use a similar dial-up through a pcmci modem on my laptop instead of the bluetooth.
I was confused when it asked for a username and passowrd and didn’t know where to get those from, so for the heck of it I used improvised username and password and gues what? it worked!
Maybe you should give it a shot, sometimes systems are not as smart as we expect them to be, LOL

Jeff,
You need to set up a password for logging on to the service. That’s my experience with such things. Did it come with a set-up wizard?

Sprint or Verizon?
If it’s Verizon, your username is your ten digit number @vzw3g.com (for example, 5035551212@vzw3g.com). The password is “vzw” without the quotes, though I think it will accept anything here. That’s what I use, and it works.
For Sprint, I don’t remember for certain, but I think you can leave username and password blank (or maybe username is your 10 digit number, password is blank).
For either Sprint or Verizon, the number you should dial to connect to the EVDO network is #777
Hope that helps!
