The Nobel committee just said that media organizations may win the peace prize. I’m not joking: I’d nominate Blogger, for it gave voice to the people anywhere. How about you?

I agree. As a retired reporter, I can put together a news story and have it online as soon as I hit “Publish.” On many stories, the local dailies are now trailing the blog. Since June 2005, people have gone from asking, “What’s a blog?” to saying they read Plaintalker first thing every morning.

Good pick. The problem is, when it came time to accept the prize, Blogger would be down.

Seconded.

Also, I hate the Blogger template … So hard to dig in a linear fashion into the archives of a newly discovered site.

Personally, I’m feeling a little victimised!

Sounds like a great idea. I am a late-comer blogger, is Blogger the first? I personally use WordPress and looks like Jeff you use WordPress too. How about dividing the prize money by the active bloggers each of the top 5 blogging sites? This will be the first time a Nobel Prize money is divided by percentage. (Big big smile)
Seriously, it feel so liberated to blog and publish and no need to wait for a newspaper to screen our letters to the editors. I was so unhappy about an article recently. I sent an email to the editor-in-chielf, TV editor, and the writer himself. And then I decided to publish that letter and call for others to call up or email the newspaper if want to complain too. OK, may be two people or no one call, but at least there is a measure of power being return to the people. That is cool.
Keep up the great blog Jeff.

For sure.

Blogger is certainly a pioneer worthy of recognition but I think WordPress has now overtaken it. The developers behind it don’t really get the credit they deserve despite the fact that their software has powered many blogs (including your own Jeff!) and helped give countless users an easy way to publish on the web.

It’s not a software award. It’s about changing the world.

nope. it isn’t just about the voice; it is also about the what they “voice” says. Satelitte TV will do more for peace/war than blogger.

Great choice. Never happen. The Nobel Peace Committee likes lefty lackies like Jimmy Carter who endorsed Hugo Chavez’s rigged election. And don’t forget, Arafat, with decades of terrorism under his belt, he got a his Peace Prize too.
Oh, and you won’t be reading or discussing the hypocrisy of the Nobel selections in print or on tv, it will be happening on blogs.
Long live citizen’s journalism.
