A mob of moms

Andi Silverman, who blogs about breastfeeding at MamaKnowsBreast, has been following an interesting case of a distributed smart mob organizing on the internet: After a passenger was ejected from a Freedom Airline/Delta flight for breastfeeding, moms put together a nurse-in for Tuesday.

We flew on Southwest (rapidly becoming my favorite airline, by the way – that’s another post), and I was struck as we began our initial descent: I was surrounded by breasts.  Yep, that’s right: at least a half dozen moms, in unison, detached their nursing bras and their kids  started exercising their jaws, making the descent much more peaceful for everyone else around us. Interesting…. My wife is working on a vlog entry about in-flight breastfeeding. She managed to do it on a couple of Delta flights last month without incident. The Delta flight attendents saw what we were doing (she was breastfeeding, I was shooting video) and didn’t care a whit. Breastfeeding during takeoff and landing helps the little one stave off ear pressure pain, like chewing gum. Worked like a charm.
