Here’s the latest episode of IdolCritic. Liza worries about Leslie losing it after losing. She frets about sex with Chris. She slaps Jennifer Hudson upside the head for dissing her Idol roots at the Oscars.
I just can’t believe that Sanjaya made it by a whisper. I think that’s America’s strange sense of humor. We kept that strange kid around for a longtime last year and now we’re stuck with Sanjaya.
Watch IdolCritic and go here to join in the water-cooler debate.

Jeff, no quotes this time so can like what I say. I think Liza is a bitch. And while she’s kind of funny at first, she becomes annoying. Particularly after watching the shows she’s talking about. I don’t know what kind of hits she gets, besides the links from your site, but I suspect she’d get precious few without you.
Really. Idol is not a huge success because people like Liza are sitting around wondering whether Sundance is a deadbeat Dad. The stuff about Sanhaya is good.
Honestly, she’s trying too hard to be edgy and snarky. I love Idol and would watch anything about Idol. Except I had to stop her about 1/4 into it. If you are somehow involved in this, you might want to tell her.
Cooler Heads needs to cool off! What makes Liza a bitch exactly? Is it that she has an opinion? A point of view? I don’t think Liza is trying to be snarky. She is. As is much of Idol’s viewership. That’s the fun of the show, genius.
It’s a reality show of people who are trying to be professional singers. They are trashed every week by the judges. Nothing like watching some nobody sitting on her living room coach pile on, and pile on with so little grace or style.
I used to read Ann Althouse’s Idol critiques and while they were quite biting, they didn’t have the kind of bitchy, I’m better then they are quality that I hear in Liza’s broadcast. She could be the Joan Rivers of Idol critique. And that isn’t actually a compliment.
Lots of people have really sharp and edgy points of view about Idol, or anything. Liza, sadly, sounds like a bitch rather than a wit.
Have you ever been to a water cooler? Have you ever SEEN a water cooler? This is the conversation happening there, that’s the idea behind Idol Critic.
American Idol is a singing competition… which is why Sanjaya wasn’t voted off last night. Which is why the brutal Simon Cowell is a pop culture king. Please! It’s a reality show! Precious little is professional about it.
On a personal note, please stop disrespecting women with your flagrant use of the word bitch. It discredits every point you are trying to make. Emphasis on trying.
The reason why most people outside the 14-24 age bracket watch American Idol is because they like to lighten up, unwind on the couch and make fun of something every once in a while. I have found it even more fun to watch the show with someone else who can bring out the 7th grader in me…without traumatizing the kid who picks his nose in the back row.
What makes “Idol Critic” fun is that it is quick, witty and indulgent…and it doesn’t hurt anyone. The participants on AI know that they are going to be the focus of jokes before they go to those cattle-call auditions.
Regarding the repeated use of the word “bitch”
Also, can you think of any other word to describe someone (male OR female) who is forthright, bold and speaks her/his mind?
Back in the day, there was amateur hour and other similar shows. I don’t know how the audience reacted then.
It makes me a little sad to think that people like to unwind by hearing someone make nasty comments about an overweight guy in a singing competition for being fat and how his wife must cry after sex.
But if people want to roll back the clock and become the creepy people they were in 7thgrade to have fun, hey be my guest.
The beautty of Jeff’s YouTube, audience-driven world is that the people who enjoy listening to Liza beat up people for being fat, or strange looking can do it all the time, night and day. But I don’t have to.
Actually I wouldn’t have commented at all except Jeff is here promoting this content, and I wanted to see what he thought was so good.
Enjoy Liza. She’s all yours.
One last thing: it’s okay to rag on people for being fat, a la Liza, but not okay to call her a bitch because it’s demeaning? C’mon.
I have to say I thought Liza’s comments about Chris were sophmoric and probably part of the reason she’s still single, but I generally do find her funny.
Her take on Lesley was mean, but, yep, there was something to it.
It’s interesting that Cooler Heads found the Sanjaya stuff funny, presumably because he agreed with it as I did too.
Bottom line: Cooler heads strikes me as someone who hates criticism he disagrees with, but is okay with criticism he agrees with. Ergo, bitch ok. Fat, bad.
One last thing: it’s okay to rag on people for being fat, a la Liza, but not okay to call her a bitch because it’s demeaning?
YUP.
BTW, I am a female. And not overweight. As for bitch, if the shoe fits….
Actually I think it’s ok to rag on people for being fat, a bitch, potentially loonie and wearing a mullet. But just because I think it’s okay doesn’t mean I will find it funny or unsightful. Some fat jokes are funny, others aren’t. some bitch comments are accurate, others aren’t.
In this case, I didn’t't think the fat joke was funny or the bitch comment accurate. But I think all of them were within the bounds of acceptable discourse.
MY point was that Cooler Heads can’t seem to accept having a different opinion than others on what constitutes funny/bitchy.
Ooooh, we only wish we could sing.

Go back and read what i wrote. I never said to censor Liza. I just said I thought she wasn’t funny, and was mean and lacking self-esteem so she lashes out at the weak. (definition: bitch)
Love her, hate her. I don’t care. But Jeff, don’t ask what I think by putting her out here with comments if you don’t want to know.
Or tell me I’m supposed to nod in agreement and say how swell she is like everyone else does.
(Yawn)
What is this? A not-so-intelligent person talking about a insipidly stupid show. What’s the deal Jeff, do you actually like this crap? How am I supposed to take you seriously when…well, I guess I shouldn’t be overly judgmental. I would be a hypocrite if I did. We all have our vices. My wife and I watch “The Gilmore Girls.”
does it bother anyone that even in the microcosm of important media issues blogged here that American Idol still garners the loudest and largest number of responses?
