Good piece. I would only add that the core skill, the common denominator that will run through all these changes is the ability to tell a good story. No matter the medium you use, the story has to be there. I think that some bloggers in paticular lose sight of that. A keen understanding of what's at stake, who the stakeholders are and all other elements of a compelling story is what will bring the eyeballs and advertisers to the page.

Interesting thoughts, especially as I'm going through the same process myself at the moment with my online journalism class. Week one was blogs, week two was a content management system and basic HTML. Week three was citizen journalism, UGC and images. Week four - audio - I sent them out with hard disk recorders to interview someone. This week - video. Throughout they're posting to a live news website (www.mediastudent.com/newsonline/) and their own correspondent blogs. Then, after a week's break from classes, they return to work in teams combining Flash, video, images and audio to create 'multimedia interactives'.

It's a tall order to ask them to do all of that - but at least they'll have the experience of the wide range of areas they need to enter the profession.
