hi
doing a Ph.d in journalism has increased thanks to a lot of institutions which offer courses on journalism
with globalisation any news in a small village spreads so fast to every nook and corner of the planet
skynews is making lot of good training and also many ways to make them available to all people

How is this approach any different from the traditional business model except that the contributors AREN'T being compensated?

Read:

"The appointee’s role would be to work closely with Sky News to recruit suitable contributors, mentor them and guide them in creating the right sort of content, and manage their contributions."

Skynews would be training and managing them--so they're just reinventing the wheel! The catch is that Skynews has no plans in place for compensating them.

Sounds to me like Skynews is getting a great deal and that their investors love it. No salaries to be paid, no benefits, no insurance, etc. It'll be interesting to see if Skynews takes the copyright from its non-paid contributors, too, and then makes that content available for resale or syndication. I love it. Welcome to Web 2.0.

Chalk one up again for The Man.

for what it's worth, this project is very similar to the one I'm doing in Australia, between QUT and SBS. (Some of our people are friends with the people at City Uni)

Our is at http://youdecide2007.org - we're doing a soft launch later this week.
