Jimmy Justice is a splendid example of a general phenomenon. Technology is making all abuse by people in power or authority more difficult.

Great point, Martin. But I guess that this is about what's published and encouraged. They could take other pictures if that's what Bild published. (Fat chance, I guess.)

The problem is that Johan is mainly taking pictures of politicians and c-list celebs in their swimming trunks on holiday, not holding public officials to account like Jimmy.

His main goal is not to be considered a "Jouralist" but to inform the public of the poor and unfair service from police and other public services. He should be supported in any ways possible, not commented on if he is an amateur journalist or a professional. This should have been done by journalist a long time ago. This just goes to show the brave thing he is doing does not require approval from the higher ups. He is doing it on his own and I think more people from around the nation should be doing the same thing. Who is going to police the police. Internal Affairs sure doesn't do it all. If you are worried about whether Jimmy is a journalist then your head is not on the right subject.

This concept that all we know about society must be passed through the filter of journalists is foolish. Before the printing press was invented, everyone was a gatherer, sender, and receiver of news. Jimmy Journalist would have been a star. Technology created superior ways to spread news, but it placed these capabilities in the hands of a few, so we needed full-time people to do the gathering/editing/refining/sending that the multitudes previously did. Now that technology is enabling each of us to gather, send, and receive our own news once again, journalists need to find new ways to justify their positions as middlemen between news sources and those who want to know what they know. (Steve Boriss, The Future of News)
