Festival Diwali at Trafalgar Square

Trafalgar Square has been a bit of a Bombay Mix of late with all sorts of events celebrating Indian culture. The Hindu festival, Diwali is in the spotlight today and there’s plenty at this free event to light your fire. This ancient festival of light is a celebration of good over all that is dark and evil. Tradition calls for the lighting of ‘diyas’ or earthen lamps so Trafalgar Square will be a hive of activity, not unlike the cities of India where Diwali sees whole cities transformed into cathedrals of light. It should be a pretty spectacle with floating candles in the fountains and lights everywhere. And as with all festivals, expect to find song and dance. But even with all that, allow me to shed some light on why this will definitely be worth your while – the food! /
