Tancer werkt voor Hitwise, een bedrijf dat het online doen en laten van miljoenen Amerikanen analyseert en de informatie gebruikt om andere bedrijven te helpen hun marketing en strategie te verbeteren. Al dat commerciële gewroet levert soms heel interessante bijvangst op. Tancer schreef er een lezenswaardig boek over: Click: What Millions of People Are Doing Online and Why it Matters. Waarom Amerikanen juist die laatste week van november depressief zijn? Volgens Tancer lijden ze, in de week na Thanksgiving, massaal aan de holiday blues. Dit jaar zijn er natuurlijk wat versterkende factoren. En niet alleen in de Verenigde Staten. Onder bankiers, autoverkopers en makelaars zal de vraag naar prozac de afgelopen weken flink zijn toegenomen. Maar één beroepsgroep is nog depressiever. Waar voor anderen de malaise uiteindelijk van voorbijgaande aard zal zijn, vrezen journalisten dat de kredietcrisis de genadeklap is voor de hele professie. The important question is, how can Jon Stewart be even more unfunny, now that the Daily Show will be a mouthpiece for the new administration.

Given that fellatiating for The Man does not make for good comedy, perhaps Comedy Central should replace him with Dennis Miller.
