Whereabouts
: Been busy with Mother's Day festivities (namely: "All I want is a clean garage").

His reviews are in
: Cori Dauber fisks Frank Rich.

American Foreign Legion
: Bertrand Pecquerie of EditorsWeblog says that America's experience in the war in Iraq is not similar to Vietnam; it is similar to the French experience in Algeria.

It's just a little comment, but when I read in the Washington Post "U.S. May Be Winning Battles in Iraq But Losing the War, Some Officers Say", I immediately remind the French-Algerian situation at the beginning of the sixties. It was said that the military actions were going well in Alger and the country, but at the end France lost everything: Algeria, international prestige, honor and self-esteem...
And with our private forces, it is as if we have an American Foreign Legion there.

Medical modernism
: Nancy Reagan supports stem-cell research. Call it enlightened self-interest, due to her husband's disease -- or just call it enlighted.
Note also last week a hairpin turn in diabetes research as scientists find that adult stem cells are not going to help sufferers but embyronic stem cells may.
It is an election issue.

New & improved
: MediaTIC reports an imminent upgrade to Blogger.
