I edit the tags on my blog in a similar way. Click, and they become editable, and then when I save, it does so without reloading the whole page. “AJAX” like that is going to play a role in WordPress 1.6. Already you can add categories on the fly and drag around the pieces of your compose screen, with their new positions being saved automatically. The technology really allows the line between your front end and your back end to become blurred.

Wikiwyg is open source, and is available to modify and include in other programs.
