Hoder, the pioneering Iranian blogger, is in Israel to report and learn and share. Go read his post about why he’s going and his reports from Israel and while you’re there, support his trip. I will.

It’s great that he’s doing this and I wish him the best of luck, and a great trip.
But all this drama about immigration issues (”Will Israel let him in?” “Will he be able to go back to Iran?”) is just silly. The guy is a journalist with a Canadian passport and a list of hosts and invitations. There is no way Israel wasn’t going to let him in (it’s hardly like he’s the first ethnic Iranian to enter Israel anyway) and they’ll routinely stamp his visa on a separate paper.
The stuff people say is priceless to behold sometimes. During a Washington Post panel discussion with Glenn Reynolds, Jeff Jarvis Jane Hamsher, and Jay Rosen, an anonymous New York commenter leveled the following charge at Glenn Reynolds: New York, N.Y…

This is actually fairly prevalent. While I lived in Saudi as an expat I was not allowed to visit Israel either, even though I am neither a Saudi national or citizen. Also, as an American, I cannot visit Cuba…
Although, Ive heard that you can request a paper insert for the visa stamp in lieu of the more traditional method where a page in your passport is used.

Yes, if you read down a couple of sentences, that was precisely my point. Israel routinely stamps visas on a separate paper, because situations like this come up all the time. Again, I give Derakhshan credit for what he’s doing but he doesn’t need to carry on like he’s going to Mars.
Ok! any one, any universities (not the University of Phoenix Online) wants to pay for my flights? Maybe National Organization for Women? We should support Iranian women bloggers too! Being the great grand daughter of a renown and influential Shiite Ayatollah and everything… I can speak for hours. Furthermore… I am willing to travel anywhere (places with good air/weather only,) and speak about the importance of blogging for Iranian Women!! I can even speak about the importance of Iran’s ancient past and future… belly dancing and Samba are also part of my expertise!

He had the same amount of papers and invitations while he was trying to enter the States.

Um, Hossein’s Canadian passport was stamped with an Israeli visa. Just in case a couple of commenters were still wondering.
